UTG Membership Requirements

A Member in Good Standing:

  1. Must have completed the training program.
  2. When active, conducts an average of two student tours per month during both Fall and Spring touring seasons.
  3. Attends the general meetings on the first Thursday of each month, as scheduled, September through June.
  4. Serves on a Standing Committee, an Appointed Committee or the Board of Directors.
  5. Pays annual dues.
  6. Complies with the provisions of the UTG By-Laws and Standing Rules

Only members in good standing are permitted to participate in business meetings, vote or serve in any of the elective or appointed offices. If membership requirements have not been met and the Guide Complaint Procedures have been followed, a guide will be excused from UTG membership by the President.

Active Status

Active members must complete all the requirements listed above. In addition, an active member must complete the Retraining requirements and comply with the touring safety and emergency guidelines.

Inactive Status

Inactive Status may be requested, in writing, of the Board for no more than two consecutive touring seasons. Repeated requests for inactive touring status will be cause for review. Upon application to the Membership Chair, a member who is physically unable to conduct tours and who is has been a member in good standing, may become involved in special UTG projects. Such assignments are the practical equivalent of touring for the purpose of maintaining membership eligibility.

Dues are still required as an inactive member. Committee participation is encouraged, but optional. If an inactive member does not request reinstatement in writing at the end of the maximum allowed time, s/he will automatically be dropped from membership.

Associate Status

Associate status may be granted after 10 years of membership or upon recommendation of the Board. A change of status request for Associate Non-Touring or Associate Substitute status must be submitted in writing by completing a Change in Membership Status form or submitting the request in writing to the Membership Chair. Dues are required annually. All other duties are optional for Associate members. Volunteering for committee assignments is encouraged, but not required.

Lifetime Status

Lifetime membership may be granted by the Board as a special honor. Lifetime members do not pay dues. Tours, meeting attendance, and committee assignments are optional.
